Overview

Experts say that no single factor determines if a child is ready for kindergarten. What they do agree on is that getting a good start in school is very important to later academic success.

In the Metropolitan Family Service early childhood education program, children attend classes with their parent or family member three times a week. Children attending Ready, Set, Go! learn new skills from the moment they walk in the door; skills that will support their transition into kindergarten.

Having parents involved can minimize the child’s anxiety about participating in activities, and gives parents a better understanding of how their child interacts with others. Parents observe what their child is learning and can provide support in the classroom. Parents also learn techniques that they can practice with their child at home to help them achieve in school.

Accessible to All
Our kindergarten readiness program is open to all children who are 4 years old and live in the North Clackamas School District Area.

Families learn about the program through counselors at schools, through English as a Second Language programs, Educational Service Department (ESD) and through the Clackamas Family Support Center at the Wichita Center for Family and Community where the program is located.

Ready, Set, Go! has been providing services for 5 years. Parents are encouraged to attend parenting classes also offered by Metropolitan Family Service.
