Metropolitan Family Service places AmeriCorps members in Portland area Community Schools to address escalating needs among children and families. Members develop and facilitate service-learning and youth leadership opportunities for students; recruit and coordinate volunteers, engage parents and families in schools; and build partnerships in the community.

We promote volunteerism and are rewarded and recharged by the results. We think you will be as well. Get involved. We have 2,000 individuals who share their life skills, talents, and interests as MFS volunteers.

Just a few hours a month to do something for others – and for yourself – can make a significant difference in our community. MFS volunteers work with children, families, and older adults. They participate in ongoing activities as well as occasional events. They volunteer to provide services and they work behind the scenes. They provide academic mentoring, recreational activities, and friendly visiting.
